SKY-001 for BIM is demonstrated through floor-plan generation and ordered drawing states. The reviewed sources do not establish a production-ready Revit workflow or IFC export. Below is our proposed apartment-floor evaluation, not a test we performed, an approved building plan, or evidence of regulatory compliance.
From an envelope to drawing states.
Skyfall’s research article, cited in the source notes, describes inputs including a storey envelope, wall thicknesses and open edges, plus a programme with net area, room sizes, and rough positions. A simple layout sketch represents those room positions. The Composer generates a whole plan, checks it against the brief, and can split large storeys into parts for further planning and reassembly.
The Construction World Model then produces 2D drawing states: exterior boundaries, apartment divisions and shared circulation, followed by rooms, doors, windows, and fixtures. This is a drawing sequence, not evidence of a site construction schedule or coordinated structural and services design. See how SKY-001’s two stages work for the underlying architecture.
Demonstration versus roadmap: turning generated plans into editable walls, doors, windows, and rooms in a building model is explicitly future work in the article. Do not treat visible symbols as verified BIM objects with usable properties.
Proposed brief: two apartments on one floor.
Our hypothetical evaluation, not a Skyfall example. Prepare a dimensioned reference drawing before requesting output. Use metres for lengths and square metres for areas; define north, the drawing origin, and whether each boundary is an external face or a room finish face. Confirm that the available provider interface accepts the brief.
| Brief item | Proposed review target |
|---|---|
| Envelope and fixed core | 20 × 12 m external-face rectangle. Reserve a 4 × 4 m core centred on the south edge; mark its entrance and immutable boundary on the input drawing. |
| Walls and openings | Specify 0.25 m exterior walls, 0.20 m apartment divisions, and 0.10 m internal partitions. Identify permitted window edges and keep the core unchanged. |
| Programme | Two two-bedroom apartments, each targeting 85 m² net internal area, within ±5%. Each needs living/kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom, utility, and entry/storage space. |
| Room schedule | Per apartment: living/kitchen 30 m², bedrooms 14 and 12 m², bathroom 6 m², utility 4 m², entry/storage/circulation 19 m². Set a ±10% review band for each scheduled allocation. |
| Adjacency and circulation | Both entries connect to the shared corridor and fixed core. Bedrooms must not be passageways. Target 1.50 m unobstructed shared-corridor width for this exercise only. |
Measure net areas to internal finish faces and account separately for shared space, core, and walls inside the gross envelope. If the targets conflict, record the conflict rather than silently enlarging the footprint or moving the core. These dimensions do not establish accessibility, fire safety, daylight, or local planning compliance.
Review topology before judging the image.
- Boundary overlay: retain the input drawing and overlay the proposed plan at the same scale. Check footprint, wall thickness, core position, and permitted openings. A rescaled screenshot is not a dimensional measurement.
- Room register: request named room boundaries and measured areas, if available. Record missing, duplicated, overlapping, or unenclosed rooms. Compare each apartment total and each scheduled allocation with the frozen brief.
- Adjacency map: list which spaces each door connects. Trace both apartment entries to the core, and each bedroom to its entry without passing through another bedroom. A door symbol crossing a wall does not prove a valid opening.
- Circulation overlay: inspect clear widths, door swings, collisions, and routes blocked by fixtures. Record measured pinch points. This is a planning check, not evacuation or accessibility certification.
- Drawing-state record: retain the ordered floor-plan states and final drawing. Check whether later steps erase openings, disconnect rooms, or alter fixed boundaries. Keep corrections and reviewer time visible.
Use one ledger row per requirement: expected value, observed value, artifact reference, reviewer, and pass/fail/unverified. If only rendered images are available, dimensional and object-data checks may remain unverified. Do not count manual tracing as evidence that the model delivered room objects.
Separate source data from export capability.
Skyfall reports using IFC-derived floors in its construction benchmark. That establishes a source of evaluation plans, not an IFC export feature. Neither IFC delivery nor native Revit interoperability is established by the reviewed material.
For a future handoff evaluation, ask for the actual supported format and version, coordinate reference, units, storey levels, object identifiers, room boundaries, classifications, and retained properties. Open the delivered file in the receiving application and compare the room register and geometry before and after import. Record any manual reconstruction separately.
Proposed edit check, conditional on editable output: move one internal bedroom partition by 0.20 m without changing the envelope or core. Recheck adjacent room areas, door connections, and object identity. This evaluates the promised editable-building direction only if and when that functionality becomes available.
The benchmark guide explains the published overlap metric; it does not certify room topology or model completeness. Use the access and vendor-readiness checklist to establish what can actually be evaluated.
BIM evaluation questions.
Does a floor plan with walls and doors count as a BIM deliverable?
Not automatically. A drawing can depict elements without carrying editable objects, relationships, levels, or properties. Define the required information deliverable before evaluating its appearance.
Can this proposed brief verify a building is safe or code-compliant?
No. It checks a narrow planning and handoff task. Licensed professionals must separately assess the applicable codes, structure, services, fire strategy, accessibility, and site-specific requirements.
